We began with a mooncake box, we chose this because we can recycle this instead of throwing it away. A pizza box can also be used for this project. In order to create the solar powered oven we cut a foldable flap from the top of the container. To create this flap we followed the side of the container, as shown in the image below.

After cutting out the flap, we wrapped the section in foil wrap. Foil wrap is a material commonly found in households. It is also a great reflector of sunlight. This will reflect the sun light onto the food being cooked inside.

Cutting out the flap means there will be a hole on the roof of the box. This massive hole will allow hot air to escape. To prevent this we will cover this hole with cling wrap. We chose to use cling wrap because again it is a material commonly found in a household. It also allows sunlight to enter without blocking it. We secured the cling wrap with sticky tape

To retain the heat better, we also decide to line the bottom of the container with black paper. This can also be done with black paint. We chose to do this as black surfaces are great at absorbing heat. This will keep the side hot. We also chose to wrap the outside in black as well. This will again increase the absorption of heat.

After further thinking we also chose to add foil to the side of the container. This will increase the reflection and heat reflected on the food being cooked. This foil is also used to create insulation for the food. Futhermore, the inside of the lid of the container was also filled with foil.

The next step is to find a sunny spot to cook your chosen food. For this project we decided to make hashbrowns and a pizza. We chose to use these foods because why not.

When we took out the box the inside temperature was 25 degrees celsius (room temperature). After taking it out for a couple of minutes it rose to 54 degrees celsius. This was of great surprise to us, because of the effectiviness. 

We began by placing 2 hashbrowns inside. We wrapped one in cling wrap and another in foil. We did this because this is testing process to find out the best way to produce the most heat and cook the food most appropriately. This is to prepare for the cooking of the pizza.

After further thinking we decide to create more flaps around the containers, this way more sunlight/heat will be reflected onto the food being cooked. After creating the extra flaps and attaching them with sticky tape we found that the temperature increase significantly.

Over the period of time the container was outside, the sunlight would often be covered by clouds. We found that this would reduce the temperature of the container. Thus using the extra flaps and moving the container during different times of the day, we were able to bypass this problem.  

Throughout this process, we experimented with the different angles in which the relector may be adjusted. We found that slight increases in the incline or decline would result in temperature differences by up to 20 degrees. We found that an optimal position for the reflector was at an angle of 90 degrees.
